Kazan
A city in the Russian Federation the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, a major port on the left bank of the Volga River at the confluence of the Kazanka River. One of the largest religious, economic, political, scientific, educational,, cultural and sports centers in Russia. The Kazan Kremlin is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The length of the city from the north to the south is 29 km, from the west to the east - 31 km. In the western, central and southwestern parts the city overlooks the Volga River for about 15 km. In Kazan, there is one bridge across the Volga - at the extreme western boundary of the city. The Kazanka River flows from the northeast to the west through the middle of the city and divides Kazan into two parts commensurate in the territory - historical to the south of the river and newer one to the north. The two parts of the city are connected by five dams and bridges, as well as a metro line.
